FAQ

Questions about standards.

What is the difference between ETIM and BMEcat?

ETIM is a classification: it says which features a product class has. BMEcat is a file format that carries that description to your partners. Most projects need both.

ETIM or ECLASS: which one do we need?

The one your partners ask for. ETIM is common in technical industries such as electrical, HVAC and plumbing, ECLASS is used across industries, and a PIM can keep a mapping between the two.

Where does GS1 fit?

GS1 identifies a product (the GTIN) and shares its data between brands and retailers. It works next to a classification such as ETIM or ECLASS, not instead of it.

Can a PIM keep our data in line with these standards?

Yes. For GTV we extended Pimcore with ETIM classification, BMEcat export and an ETIM Mapper. See ETIM and BMEcat implementation.
